The National Honor Society, in an effort to spread joy and cheer, organized a Christmas Card drive. Hundreds of cards were written by the Fountain Lake high school students with positive messages and Christmas jokes. The cards will be distributed to the residents of area nursing and rehab facilities. The picture is the NHS president, Wyatt Peters, handing off 170 cards to Shelia Russell with Hospice Homecare.

On Saturday, the 8th grade band and a select group of 7th grade band students traveled to Lake Hamilton to compete in the Jr. High All Region Tryouts. All of our students tried their hardest and it certainly paid off! Two of our 8th grade students landed a place within the top 5 chairs of their section: Ethan Shaffett, Trombone (1st band, 2nd chair) Ethan Treat, Trumpet (1st band, 4th chair). Please congratulate them with a nice high five if you see them. The following students also received a spot in on of the two All-Region Bands: Aliyah McKellar, Clarinet London Ledbetter, French Horn Adrien Sandage, Tuba (alternate) We are super proud of all of the students who auditioned. They certainly have worked very hard this semester!

The holidays are approaching and with that comes holiday stress, especially for those who are grieving the “year of firsts.” Fountain Lake SD partners with The Cook Center for Human Connection to offer the December Mental Health Newsletter focused on coping with holiday grief. If you are experiencing the holidays for the first time since losing a loved one, moving to a new location, or facing new challenges from this past year, we would like to offer hope. If you are grieving, your child is probably grieving as well. Learn how to help your child with grief and loss during the holidays, learn how practicing mindfulness can be used as a coping strategy, or learn 6 steps to manage holiday stress with children. We wish you peace and happiness as you spend time with those you love this holiday season. https://app.box.com/s/9lkpryuvein9q7whs5asynky8r4dnmq3

Our eSports shop is now live until December 5th!! Esports, or competitive video gaming, may not have the same physical demands as traditional athletics, but students’ focus on the shared qualities of teamwork, sportsmanship and leadership have led schools across the country rushing to adopt the country’s fastest-growing sport. Esports programs have spread rapidly in high schools across the country over the last few years and are reaching student populations that had previously been untapped by extracurricular programs of any kind, creating larger, more inclusive campus communities and more successful students. Our eSports team is in our 4th year on campus, we will be participating in our 7th and 8th season this year. This semester we have 15 students on the team and could be adding more next season with the addition of new games. We are excited to be a part of Fountain Lake Athletics! We have all kinds of apparel and items for sale! Many items have the Cobra eSports logo as well as a variety of items that have a Fountain Lake Cobra logo. We have tshirts, hoodies, pullovers, jackets, beanies, tights, joggers, shorts, and other items available for sale. Our shop is located at this link https://fancloth.shop/QYWDW Check it out and help support eSports, the fastest growing sport in the world!
