The Fountain Lake Counseling and Career Center would like to announce a tour of colleges on Thursday, November 2nd. We will provide transportation and lunch for all juniors to tour different types of schools: A large public university (University of Central Arkansas), a highly selective private college (Hendrix), and a smaller private christian college (Central Baptist College). This is not an attempt to recruit to these colleges, but to educate students about the different types of colleges they can choose from and encourage JRs to plan college visits. Students will need to provide their own transportation from school to their respective homes that afternoon. We will leave at 8:00 am and be back about 4:15 pm. Lunch will be provided. Students should have someone pick them up at school when the buses return to campus between 4pm & 4:30.

APPLICATIONS FOR ARKANSAS GOVERNOR'S SCHOOL ARE NOW OPEN. Arkansas Governor’s School is a four-week summer residential program for upcoming high school seniors (current Juniors) who are residents of the state of Arkansas: July 7 thru August 3. The program is funded by the Arkansas State Legislature as a portion of the biennial appropriation for Gifted and Talented Programs through the State Department of Education. State funds provide tuition, room, board, and instructional materials for each student who attends the four-week program on the site of a residential college campus, sponsored by the state (currently Arkansas Tech University). Arkansas Governor’s School is a non-credit program that seeks to create a unique experience for a select group of Arkansas’ best students—the potential leaders of the 21st century. Both inside and outside the classrooms, AGS provides highly motivated, creative students with an intellectual atmosphere impossible to sustain in ordinary academic settings. The excitement of intellectual and artistic pursuits and the expectation of significant conceptual gains permeate all aspects of the participants’ lives for the full four weeks. You can find more about the program by going here: https://www.atu.edu/ags/.

Tomorrow, October 25th, we'll be administering the PSAT to sophomores. Please remind them to report to Safe Room A after breakfast with their Chromebooks charged and ready to use. They are allowed to have a water bottle and snacks, as the tests have several built-in breaks. Scratch paper and pencils will be provided. There is a built-in calculator for allowable sections. They may also wish to bring earbuds or headphones. Although sophomores are not eligible for the NMSQT scholarship, there will be juniors present who are making the effort to qualify for the $40,000+ scholarship. For those who are attending the volleyball game, a make-up test session will be available on Friday.
